Scientific objectives
Mirrorless Digital Cameras are ideal for all-sky color imaging of aurora.
The images are used in public presentations. The Sony a7s camera is set up as a replacement for the old
Nikon DSLR. It doesn't have a mirror, and it runs in silent mode (no mechanical shutter), meaning that there are no moving parts.
This should ensure a longer lifetime than the Nikon D7000 had.
