Scientific objectives Determine the morphology of the mesophere winter temperature behavoir associated with gravity waves and stratospheric warmings in the northern hemisphere. It is setup to scan in the near infrared wavelength region of the electromagnetic spectrum including the OH(6-2) band of airglow. The OH airglow is a chemically produced emitting layer located at a height of about 87 km and is approximately 8 km thick. The data from this instrument dates back to 1980. Analyses of the dataset constitutes one of the longest times series of mesospheric winter temperatues in the world. |
